The Essential SkinGraft Page of Goodness
January 18th 2011
Look at this lovely treasure box of downloads from stalwarts of underground music Skin Graft Records...
It suddenly occured to us Organs that we were continually drip-feeding mentions of the Chicago-based bastion of fine experimental left-field avant otherness and a whole load of vital bands with uncompromising sounds that is Skin Graft without presenting the evidence (well we do the radio on an almost weekly basis but hey...).
Dive into Skin Graft's pleasingly wild and colourful web site and you'll come across this: www.skingraftrecords.com/audio.html - with what looks like over 100 (I ran out of patience, you can count them if you like) legal free downloads of selected sample tracks from their noble roster of brilliant bands and albums. It would not be ridiculous to state that every one of them is a piece of musical revelation.
You've got recent added new creations from Gay Beast, you've got London Town's very own Pre, there's a track there from the vital Arab On Radar reissue.... you've also got astounding tracks from Koenjikyakkei and Ruins, from Zach Hill's Holy Smokes, from Cheer-Accident and the Flying Luttenbachers, come on, the Luttenbachers should be a household name! oh and there's glorious madness from Melt-Banana and, oh, go see, the page is bursting with things you just have to feed your ears with...
Skin Graft started life as a comic in 1986, somehow evolving via early Dazzling Killmen and Arab On Radar singles into one of the most respected record labels in the universe.
Just go explore that page and find bands such as
ARAB ON RADAR
THE FLYING LUTTENBACHERS
LAKE OF DRACULA
MADE IN MEXICO
And that's only part of the list... Of course, once you've gotten yourself hooked on one or all of the above, don't forget that Skin Graft is a truly independant label that thrives only when people buy some of their fine releases.
This is the real deal, the antidote. Dive in!
