1/intro:
TRANSISTOR
SIX – Back Yard Rocketship (Blackbean & Placenta) - our adopted
theme tune so you know where you are. Transistor Six is Frances Castle,
there’s lots of her fine art and creativity to explore from Francis so
please please do. You can now get the whole tune downloaded for yourselves
and find links to her artwork, albums and lots more over at www.myspace.com/transistorsix
2:
SCORCH
TRIO – Olstra (Rune Grammofon) – A slice of the opening ten minute
track of the new album that’s released on July 14th. The free spirited
hand-in-glove complex progressive jazz rock power trio from Norway have
third album for you. Analogue recording old school set up live in a room
and go – no edits, no mixing, just go... www.myspace.com/scorchtrio
or www.runegrammofon.com
3:
PORT
O’BRIEN – I Woke Up Today (City Slang) – Now how good is this new single
from the San Francisco alt/folk outfit, this I do believe is from their
debut album, the single is released tomorrow, July 7th - www.myspace.com/portobrien
or www.portobrien.com or www.cityslang.com
4:
PERSIA
– Mic (demo) – Persia is from Persia via Manchester (or maybe that should
be the other way around?). We heard her first on the Six Pillars show here
at Resonance a few weeks ago and had to go find some for ourselves – excellent
female rap, unique Manchester rap, wonderfully challenging Persian rap
– Check her out here - www.myspace.com/therealpersia
5:
FIGHT
LIKE APES – Lend Me Your Face (Model Citizen) - Forthcoming new single
from just about the best pop band around at the moment, MayKee and her
Dublin gang and butter wouldn’t melt but she’ll cut you with glass and
you won’t have such a pretty ass then, she’ll put you in a cast and cast
off all her memories, they’ll fill you up with petrol and you’ll take off
like a jet, I love this band! The single is out next week on new Irish
indie label Model Citizen - www.myspace.com/fightlikeapesmusic
6:
PEDRO
– I Am Keeping Up (Mush) - So much inspiring new music around right
now, these are rich times. Free-jazz based electronica and all kinds of
colour and dance and Pedro pushing himself and your idea of what he’s been
about so far. Kind of electric eclectic folk/world flavoured journeys that
are very much pushing in to the future – sublime electronic organic and
the broadening of horizons, slices of glowing instrumental hip-hop and
clever compositional structure – real avantness and experiments that
never lose focus, a crafted sound, intelligent rewarding gliding glowing
warmth from deepest London. Jazzy, glitchy, flowing, intriguing, rewarding,
delightful – different! Pedro is alter ego of beatsmith/producer James
Rutledge and this track is from the new album You Me And Everyone. Find
out more via www.dirtyloop.com or
www.pedromusic.net
7:
VILE
IMBECILES – Puncture Me In Touch Buster (Tea Vee Eye) – The Brighton
band have a new album out next week called Queenie Was A Blonde, jarring
awkward fluid flowing new wave deconstructed reconstructed punk ‘n blues
‘n new wave or something like that. They’re a band who seriously divide
opinion, we made it the Organ album of the week on the website this week
so you know where we stand. Simple fact is Vile Imbeciles are gloriously
different, not a different language, just a different way OF assembling
the new wave artrock indie language we already have so that it makes no
logical sense in a perfectly logical sensible way. And you, the half suffocated,
you need this new breath of fresh awkward gulping troublesome air. A beautifully
deranged perfectly arranged rather recommended second album and like we
said only the other day, disassembling alternative pop and putting it back
together so it fits a different way and works just as well as it ever did.
An excellent album - www.myspace.com/vileimbeciles
8:
THUMPERMONKEY
LIVES – Scrodingers Cat Lives (demo) – The London based pronky progressive
epic metal band have a new line up and they’re back playing live again,
they’re playing Millers in London Bridge, a stone throw from the Resonance
studio on July 9th – you’ll find links for high quality downloads via www.myspace.com/thumpermonkey
9:
FORGOTTEN
– Conquer (download) – A rather different death metal / folk rock hybrid
from Ankara, Turkey. The band have been around since the 90’s, they recently
got back together for another shot so it seems and these are demo recordings
that you can find via www.myspace.com/forgottenturkey
10:
DEADHEAD
– Heavy Metal Thunder (Displeased) - Serious hissing spittle-spitting raw
messy punky road pizza of a venomous old school speeding thrashing album
and a whole bag of heavy metal thunder. An outrageously raw and blistering
version of Saxon’s Heavy Metal Thunder! Oh yes, that’ll have you down the
front with embroidered back and we’re an army of denim and fill your hearts
with 747 fists in the air. This is from the new re-issue of the album originally
released back in 1999 and this new version comes with a whole bus load
of nice raw live bonus tracks, ok, so both studio and live teacks sound
like a bunch of yappy jack russell dogs being fed in to a rip crunching
meat-mincing machine and the “remastered for improved impact” aspect is
a little hard to pick up on but this is serious bullet belt wearing heavy
metal for people who look towards the relaxing options of Slayer or Sadus
for their chil-out breaks from the onslaught – oh yes, proper thrashing
raw punky heavy metal thunder – www.displeasedrecords.com
11:
TEQUE
– State Of Payne (Download) – From Finland with a much needed change
of pace and some instrumental electronic ambience while we catch our breath
and recover from the whiplash, fine out more over at www.myspace.com/teque
12:
FIGHT
LIKE APES – Lightsabre Cocksucker Blues (Model Citizen) – Two minute
blast of b-side action and a cover of Mclusky’s song that pretty much makes
it a Flight Light Apes song – they really can take anything they want,
yes gushing some more. There’s 500 copies released in the UK, grab one,
they’re going to be gold dust. They’re playing everywhere right now and
they more than back it up live. Their debut single was the Organ single
of the year last year, they get better by the day. Back in London at Somerset
House on July 15th with We Are Scientists - www.myspace.com/fightlikeapesmusic
13:
SIGOR
ROS – Gobbledigook (download) - You can download a legal slice
of free Gobbledigook from the album "Med sud I eyrum vid spilum endalaust
right here. The fine fine Icelandic texture-pop outfit don’t really need
any words or too much play from us now, there are pushing boundaries as
much as ever though so here you go. Download it from
http://music.download.com/sigurros/3600-8622_32-101142801.html
14:
DAVID
BOWIE - Andy Warhol - Live (EMI) – A track from the Live Santa
Monica ’72 that’s out this week – “I can tell that I’m totally
into being Ziggy by this stage of our touring, It’s no longer an act, I
an him...” Clear to see why this live recording has been regarded by diehard
fans and respected critics as the bootleg to have if you’re anywhere near
a serious devotee. So the album that has been circulating as a bootleg
for years has been taken and officially released for the first time.
Recorded some ten dates in to the American Spiders From Mars tour and originally
broadcast live by a radio station in LA complete with wonderful tape hiss
and brilliant resonance. The live recording is released on heavy duty gatefold
double vinyl and a rather neat box CD that comes with reproductions of
promo photos and posters from the time and it jut might be the perfect
live album, amazing sound quality - www.davidbowie.com
15:
FLYING
LUTTENBACHERS – Trauma 4 (ugExplode) – The legendary 2001 Trauma album
has recently been released on CD for the first time. Free-form complex
no-wave noise jazz and the Luttenbachers functioning as a three piece this
time around – pretty much anyone who is anyone in North American experimental
avant rock has passed through Weasel Walter’s outfit. One of the most original,
hardboiled, challenging and rewarding boundary pushing bands out there
– Weasel has now retired the project, there’s albums out there on labels
like Skingraft and ugExplode and every one of them worth your time and
money - www.nowave.pair.com/ugexplode
16:
MY
TIGER MY TIMING – This Is Not The Fire (demo) – new band to us, contacted
us via My Space this week. They’re from New Cross, South London and their
clever alternative experimental pop is rather breezy and rather different.
They play the Old Blue Last on July 22nd and you ca nfind out more via
www.myspace.com/mytigermytiming
17:
CR
AVERY –The Boxer Who Just Returned From London (Bongo Beat) – This
is such an fine and different track, Here’s what we said when we played
it back in March: “One of those rare occasions when a piece of music really
does have the ability to stop everyone. A track from the North American’s
new album Magic Hour Sailor Blues – it really is a case of sex, drugs and
spoken word. Poetry like you never heard it before - hip hop, blues, folk,
country, Americana and words to really hang on to, this really has to be
one of the albums of the year. Think Tom Waits or Neil Young in to poetry,
hip hop and human beatbox action” - and the last line is a reference to
Simon and Garfunkel’s The Boxer and so the new Me First album gave us the
perfect excuse to play it again – www.cravery.com
or www.bongobeat.com
18:
ME
FIRST AND THE GIMME GIMMIES – The Boxer (Fat Wreck) - The last line
of that CR Avery track is a reference to Simon and Garfunkel’s The Boxer
and here it is on the new Me First album that just landed. Have Another
Ball is yet another set of classic 70’s American rock songs done heads
down race you to the end punk pop style – this time they get to grips with
John Denver, Hall & Oats, Neil Diamond, Elton John – Me First are A
punk rock supergroup featuring members of NOFX, Lagwagon, Swingin’ Utters
and Foo Fighters. Punk rock is sometimes fun – www.fatwreck.com
19:
JO
GABRIEL – Masque Of The Red Death (Ephemera) – She’s wonderful, her
latest self released album comes with added vocals, a lazy signpost would
point you vaguely in the direction of Kate Bush or Tori Amos but she’s
far far more than just another one. This track is from one of her very
special instrumental album called The Last Drive In. A perfect way to end
tonight’s show - explore her via www.myspace.com/jogabriel
– thank
you for listening, hope you heard something that makes you want to get
involved.... same time same place next week with Marina’s Other Rock show
and the exploration of rock music that adventures beyond the conventions
of 4/4...
