The

1/intro:
TRANSISTOR
SIX – Back Yard Rocketship (Blackbean & Placenta) - our adopted
theme tune so you know where you are. Transistor Six is Frances Castle,
there’s lots of her fine art and creativity to explore from Francis so
please please do. You can now get the whole tune downloaded for yourselves
and find links to her artwork, albums and lots more over at www.myspace.com/transistorsix
2: EVILS – Micro Funk
(Shape) – track from the forthcoming debut album from Cardiff’s Evils –
"the electronic music producer Evils" so it says here on this sticker on
the front of the album that just turned up in a plastic sleeve/ I do rather
like this though, more than previous Evils things we’ve hear, all comes
together so well over the space of an album, excellent actually... kind
of like being in a relaxed semi-frantic, semi-soothing games arcade when
things don’t peck at heads too much... Serene as it were. There’s some
nice textures here, the bells and whistles are pleasing, the whole thing
is pleasing... bit of an old school Tangerine Dream vibe now and again,
touches of Plaid, when it isn’t revolving around the rather imaginative
electro dance beats and the squelchy funk and the synthesised voice and
the Yellow Magic lushness and such that is, fine inspiring creative standout
album... www.shaperecords.co.uk
3: LOW TRAMON – Attack
Of The Microwave Man (Demo) – New London band and a new demo and here’s
this week’s Organ review – “There is always cause for optimism with this
club, and there is delight to be found in the pile of demos and the slices
of discs that slash away at us and this is frantically good from the start...
Attention demanding new wave no wave and tunes that grab you by that collar
and dance you around like a knee-jerk psychotic robot that can’t contain
anything... Raw and frantically wired, and everything sounding bigger,
grabbing gulps of punk rock new wave sax driven air . Frantic sax
jousted with angular bass line and broken by design, this is a shot in
the arm. Cutthroat conventions and urgent urgentness urgently pushing the
borderline with a case of twisted insides and all gone wrong in glorious
3d colour like some mutant 50’s comic book monster and the alpha rhythms
of cavemen explained. Anyone remember the glorious brief explosions of
Camp Blackfoot? Was that the attack of the electromagnetic microwave man?
Low Tramon are from London and what did the hungry lion say about people
who have been or still are in bands such as the much missed Optimism Club,
Cutthroat Convention, Raising Objections and such...? Shall we name-drop
some not so obscure names now? Melvins? Devo? Flying Luttenbachers? Inner
City Unit? Jesus Lizard? Pointy staccato search in the dark frantic goodness,
this is the sound, five demo tracks and all alive like the flames on the
mountain pass feel safe alone? A case of twisted insides, every channel
switched on... oh yes, like this one.... Attack of the electro magnetic
microwave men... let's roll the tape, don't touch that dial...don't drop
your launch box, we need to talk survival, smiles as wide as crocodiles”
www.myspace.com/lowtramon
– they play Tommy Flynns, Camden, London on June 18th
4: GAY BEAST - Revolt,
Revolt (Skin Graft) – “Gay Beast are one of the few bands I’ve seen around
that are seriously challenging the form and content of modern rock music.
Their compositions and execution are ambitious and effective. A truly unique
and weird band” to quote Flying Luttenbacher Weasel Walter. And he’s right.
Gay Beast, “Minnesota’s premier agit-prog queercore band” to quote once
more, this time from the press release (wonder how many agit-prog queercore
bands there are in Minnesota then?), have a new album, Second Wave, out
this month – an urgent album, a precise album, a premeditated clatter of
guitars, keys and pin-point drums flavoured with a dash of electronic psych
and some cutting sax – a significant album, an exciting album, another
thrilliant album – we love doing this Organ thing! - www.myspace.com/gaybeast
or explore Skingraft’s site, there’s a good page of free sample downloads
to get you hooked over there, you really need to buy the whole album though
– www.skingraftrecords.com
5: PETER HAMMILL –
Your Face On The Street (FIE) – Peter Hammill has a new solo album out
this week, as good as anything the Van Der Graaf Generator frontman has
been involved in over his what must be forty years of making very fine,
very different, always challenging, provoking music. Thin Ice is out now
of Peter Hammill’s own label FIE – find out more via his website
www.sofasound.com
or explore some VdGG/PH treasure via the download page at www.vandergraafgenerator.co.uk
6: HOODS – Punk’s
Dead – Emo Kids Next (I Scream) – Old school no messing hardcore punk with
a metal edge from Sacramento California and the new album from Hoods called
Pit Beast. A just short of one minute blast of pure uncompromised U.S Hardcore
intent from an album that’s full of the stuff – www.myspace.com/sactohoods
7: EVILS – Bad Computer
(Shape) – Another track from the new album just because the thing is so
good – see track 2.
8: THE STILLETOES
– Smoke ‘n Snort (Ankst) – Raw teenage girl fronted Hole In Toyland style
punk rock no messing from North Wales and the debut album ADHDreams...
Some of it sung in English, some in Welsh, all of it raw and in your face
and baiting everyone and everything. The album came out at the start of
the month on ever good Welsh independent Ankst Records – www.ankst.co.uk
or www.myspace.com/thestilletoes
9: FIGHT LIKE APES
– Something Global (Model Citizen) – New single, on their own label, from
the abrasively fluid spiky synth-pop fight club from Ireland known as Fight
Like Apes. A single lifted from their excellent debut album... the single
is out as a white vinyl 7” hand stamped sleeve on June 29th, busy at festivals
and such right now, next London show is at Cargo on July 1st. Single comes
with a 56 second outburst of a new track called This Is Like The Time Jody
Didn’t Know What Cunnilingus Was that really almost certainly won’t get
played on any radio stations, and a live version of Battlestations – we
love those Apes, pure Organ fuel – www.fightlikeapesmusic.com
10: LYDIA LUNCH’S BIG
SEXY NOISE – The Gospel Singer (Sartorial) – Another slice from the
new Lydia Lunch album, a big sexy filthy dirty do not mess noise and one
of the best things this year has thrown up so far... Lydia with three members
of the ever excellent Gallon Drunk and some massively dirty bump and brutal
blues grind, as perfect as it can get... www.myspace.com/sartorialrecords
or www.myspace.com/lydialunch
11: WIDOWS - God is
Dreaming (self release) – Ah, the pleasure of simply playing things and
letting the music do the taking rather than having to write descriptions
for Organ pages... been looking forward to new recordings from London’s
Widows. This dropped through our door, rather mysteriously, a couple of
hours ahead of tonight’s show. Apparently work in progress for a forthcoming
EP called The Burning Years. Their edgy man-is-a-bad-animal Crampy showtune
flavoured hellfire and brimstone blues and the vocal style of Kim Reaper
suggests there’s something rather special going on here – www.myspace.com/widows
12: DINOSAUR Jr –
Imagination Blind (PIAS) – Dinosaur Jr have a new album, the original line
up of J. Mascis, Lou Barlow and Murph, the album is out next Monday 22nd
June, goes by the title of Farm. Sounds like Dinosaur on top form, classy,
focused, Neil Young-esque alternative rock with that edge you'’ expect
anything that involves Lou Barlow and co to have... www.dinosaurjr.com
– there’s a free download track from the album on their page should you
feel like a taste...
13: THE STILLETOES
– Teimla Y Cyffro (Ankst) – Well we couldn’t let the release of their debut
album pass without blasting one of their Welsh language songs as well.
See track eight...
14: IQ – The Providence
(G.E.P) – Thirteen and a half minutes of classic old school prog rock from
one of the original bands from that 80’s wave. New album called Frequency
out next Monday, still going strong, still as ignored and obscure as ever
as far as any media is concerned, still packing out venues and selling
records all over the world – prog rock, the last great musical taboo! Fair
to say that others in the studio and indeed you listeners who reacted were
somewhat divided on these thirteen glorious minutes of prog rock light
and shade - www.iq-hq.co.uk
15: MAYBESHEWILL –
You Can’t Shake Hands With A Clenched Fist (Field) – Track from the new
album Sing The Word Hope in Four-Part Harmony from the English band. One
for fans of that mostly instrumental post rock thing. They deserved
a play, they’re kind of doing it themselves and all with the right attitude
and spirit, do rather need our instrumental post rock to move on a step
or two now though, we need to be challenged a little more, Maybeshewill
could move it on if they really want to... Catch them in London, at the
Windmill in Brixton on June 20th - www.myspace.com/maybeshewont
16: FIGHT LIKE APES
- This Is Like The Time Jody Didn’t Know What Cunnilingus Was (Model Citizen)
– New one minute b-side off the forthcoming single and twirl bitch twirl,
see track nine for more details...
17: THE HARDY TREE
– Around The Steeple (demo) – A work in progress and a new project from
Francis, she of Transistor Six (and our theme tune), explore the delights
over at www.myspace.com/thehardytree
Next week Marina will be
in the chair with her OTHER ROCK SHOW and the continued exploration of
rock that goes beyond the convention on mere 4/4 time
